International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict was observed on 6 Nov

The International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict was observed on 6th November every year. Although several protection measures have been taken by the governments and several legal instruments, the environment is still affected by the armed conflicts worldwide. The day aims to ensure that the environment is not destroyed during incidents of armed confrontations. Environment is affected as the forests have been cut down, water wells polluted, crops burned, soil poisoned, and animals killed.  History: On 5 November 2001, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated 6 November as the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict. The day is observed annually all over the world to spread and create awareness about cancer prevention and early detection. The day ensures the protection of the environment and ecosystem under any circumstance. The day designated during the term of the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. In May 2016, the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEP) a resolution to highlight the role of healthy ecosystems and sustainable resources in reducing the chances of armed conflict.
