IAF launched fighter operations from 6 civilian airfields

The Indian Air Force (IAF) launched fighter operations from six civilian airfields in the eastern part of India.  About the exercise: ♦ The operations aim to utilize civil airport runways. It also provides services to validate operational exercises in case of any exigency during active wars. ♦ IAF also said that the Eastern Air Command has planned to carry out Sukhoi-30MKI fighter operations from six Airfields in its area of operations, namely Dimapur, Imphal, Guwahati, Kolkata, Pasighat and Andal in two phases.  ♦ The first phase will be from 16-19 October and the second phase from 29 October to 1 November 2019.  ♦ Under the exercise, IAF will be trained to undertake operations from dispersed locations in case of hostilities.  It is a part of capability-building and operational training. ♦ The exercise will train the IAF crews with the procedures of flying from these busy airfields and coordinating with their civilian counterparts. ♦ The operations are aimed that the civil airfields will get familiar with the conduct of military operations. ♦ IAF will operate from civilian airfields in the nearby region if the existing fighter bases like Chabua, Tezpur, and Kalaikunda come under attack or are bombed during a war.  ♦ IAF will regularly undertake flying operations from some national highways to prepare for such eventualities.
