Centre launched FSM scheme to strengthen Eat Right India movement

The government launched the Food Safety Mitra (FSM) scheme to strengthen and scale up the Eat Right India movement. The scheme was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Harsh Vardhan. He also launched Eat Right Jacket, and Eat Right Jhola. The scheme is in line with the Fit India Movement.  Food Safety Mitra (FSM) scheme: ♦ The Food Safety Mitra (FSM) scheme aims to support small and medium-scale food businesses to comply with the food safety laws. The scheme also facilitates licensing and registration, hygiene ratings, and training. ♦ This scheme ensures to create new employment opportunities for youth, especially with food and nutrition background.  ♦ The FSMs will be trained under the scheme and certified by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). This aims to help the trained persons to work and get paid by food businesses for their services.  ♦ On the World Food Day, 16 October, 15 FSMs were awarded certificates.  Eat Right Jacket: ♦ Eat Right Jacket aim to provide safety to field staff on duty. ♦ The Eat Right Jacket will be used by the field staff. This jacket has been designed to hold tech devices like tablets/smartphones, a QR code, an RFID tag for identification and tracking.  ♦ It will bring in efficiency, professionalism, and transparency in food safety administration  Eat Right Jhola: ♦ The Eat Right Jhola is a reusable cloth bag. It will replace plastic bags for grocery shopping in various retail chains.  ♦ These bags are often contaminated with microorganisms and bacteria due to repeated use. Hence, proper and regular washing of cloth bags is essential for safety and hygiene.  ♦ A private textile rental service company will provide the cloth bags on a rental basis.
